Casco Bay Regional YMCA in Freeport: Trail & StoryWalk

     

 The Casco Bay Regional YMCA used their grant funds towards increasing physical activity among youth and families in their community by developing a trail with the trailhead close to their front entrance, based on the StoryWalk concept. Trail signage incorporated the Let's Go! logo. For the United Way Day of Caring, a team of folks came together to construct the trail and locate a playhouse.

Families were so eager to use the trail, they started investigating when only the outline had been scraped into the terrain! The pre-school program held at the Y will use the trail two dtimes a day and the summer day camp also enjoyed its benefits. Activity areas, including a tepee and big birds nest were added over the summer.
